Settling the mind

My fave point combo for settling the mind: Yin Tang (between the eyebrows) and Du 24 (about a half inch behind the center of the hairline). This combo quiets the heart and calms the spirit making it great for insomnia and anxiety.

I asked my gorge model and maternal mental health expert Carolyn Kagan from Alliance Therapy Practice for some other great spirit calming tips and here’s what she suggested: “I’m frequently suggesting my clients pick up a simple breath work practice, it can be as basic as “smell the roses, blow out the candles” to breathing in the shape of a square, all in order to help the mind and body return to a state of calm.”

Square breathing is one of my fave tips too,  here’s how to do it:  breathe in for a count of 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold again for 4. Repeat 10 times. As you get used to this, extend the hold for 5 or 6 seconds!
